Amateur Radio Club
Patriot Campus is one of only two schools in Brevard County that has an Amateur Radio (also known as ham radio) club. On October 10, 2007 the Federal Communications Commission issued a license and call sign KI4ZUR to Patriot Campus. Officer Dan Fisher (call sign AI4GK) of the Palm Bay Police Department, along with other local hams, work with Social Studies teacher Mr. Jon Chace to acquaint Patriot Campus students with the wonders of this communications tool. Students are preparing to take the test to earn their own licenses.
In late December 2007, a radio station, including radios and antennas, was donated to the club. The equipment came via a grant from the Amateur Radio Education & Technology Program, a.k.a. "The Big Project," of the American Radio Relay League (ARRL), the national association for Amateur Radio.
On February 11 through 15, Patriot Campus will participate in the ARRL's School Club Roundup, an activity designed to acquaint students with Amateur Radio, in a contest format.
Community Service Club
Patriot Community Service Club has participated in community service projects throughout the area. They recently participated in an outreach to the homeless by providing music and helping hands. Students meet each month to plan new opportunities for student service projects.
Computer Club
Patriot students learn to build a computer cabinet that is fully operational. By dismantling older computer and studying the parts, students then are taught how to update and upgrade components to have an operation computer that the student will keep.
Flag Football
Boy's flag football has been successful in its first year. As many as 30 young men were able to participate this year.
Girl's Volleyball
Patriot Volleyball had its very first season. The girls worked very hard to form a team and competed against local schools. We look forward to expanding the current program each and every year.
Boy's & Girl's Basketball
Patriot Basketball is also in its first year. Both boys and girls are able to participate (grades 6th-8th).
TSA with Ms. Doyle on Thursdays
The Technology Student Association (TSA) is a national, nonprofit organization for students in grades K-8th with a strong interest in technology. Patriot TSA was recently awarded a grant for $250 from IEEE (The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc) to purchase a Lego robot for the club. Also, Florida Institute of Technology will be visiting the school in January 2008 to demonstrate their Robonova robot (http://www.robonova.com/main.php).
The mission of TSA is to prepare its student members for the challenges of a dynamic world by promoting technological literacy, leadership, and problem solving skills, resulting in personal growth and opportunities.
